Ford recently issued a recall affecting a significant number of vehicles, including the Escape SUV, Maverick pickup truck, and Lincoln Corsair SUV. This recall comes shortly after a previous recall that impacted over 100,000 models from the Lincoln MKC SUV lineup. The latest recall addresses a severe issue related to potential engine compartment failure, raising concerns about safety and the risk of engine-related incidents.

Owners of the affected vehicles, specifically model-year 2020-23 Escapes, 2022-23 Mavericks, and 2021-23 Corsairs equipped with 2.5-liter hybrid or plug-in hybrid engines, should be aware of the potential consequences of engine failure, engine noise, smoke as well as other possible problems. Most alarmingly, Ford admits that the issue can result in melted components, smoke, or even a fire. This poses a significant risk of injury to drivers and nearby pedestrians.

While the remedy for this issue is still under development, Ford has provided interim guidance for affected owners. If owners hear unusual engine noises, experience a reduction in power, or notice smoke, they are advised to park and immediately shut off their vehicles. This precautionary measure is crucial for mitigating potential risks until a permanent solution becomes available. Additionally, vehicles previously repaired under the original recall will require the new remedy to be performed.

Ford has announced that it will commence notifying affected owners of the potential risks associated with the recall starting June 12. However, if vehicle owners have any immediate concerns or inquiries, they can contact Ford directly and should quote the recall number 23S27.

Recalls can be an indication that an underlying issue exists with the vehicle and the manufacturer has knowledge of that defect.  Under the California Lemon Law, if the manufacturer cannot repair your vehicle under warranty after repeated attempts, you may be entitled to compensation. You can read MMO Law’s post pertaining to automotive recalls by clicking here.  You can also read our post for the a recent Ford Bronco recall.
