Ford has issued its safety recall No. 26C10 (NHTSA Recall No. 26V104) affecting millions of Ford and Lincoln vehicles from model years 2021‑2027 due to a defect involving the integrated trailer brake module.
According Ford Recall information, the integrated trailer module may lose communication with the vehicle, which can result in loss of trailer brake lights, turn signals, or trailer braking function. This increases the risk of a crash, particularly while towing.
Affected Vehicles
The recall includes certain:
- 2021‑2026 Ford F‑150
- 2022‑2026 Ford Super Duty (F‑250, F‑350, F‑450, F‑550)
- 2024‑2026 Ford Ranger
- 2023‑2026 Ford F‑600
- Ford Maverick
- 2022‑2027 Lincoln Navigator
- Ford Expedition
- 2026 Ford E‑Transit
Nature of the Defect
According to recall reports, the issue involves:
- Integrated trailer brake module
- Loss of communication with trailer
- Brake light and turn signal malfunction
- Possible trailer brake failure
If the trailer braking system fails, drivers may experience longer stopping distances and reduced control, particularly while towing heavy loads. Drivers should look out for warning lights on the instrument panel reading “trailer brake module fault” accompanied by the turn signal symbol flashing quickly. An additional “blind spot assist system fault” warning may also appear on the instrument panel.
