According to the USA Today and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”),  General Motors, LLC (widely referred to as “GM” or “General Motors”) recently recalled certain 2023 Cadillac XT5 and GMC Acadia vehicles.  Generally, a recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle or its equipment creates an unreasonable safety risk or fails to meet minimum safety standards.  The recall at issue affects the powertrain component of the affected vehicles.  NHTSA’s identification number for the recall is 23V043000 while GM has its own identification number for this recall of N222393410.

According to the General Motors’ recall, drivers of the affected vehicles may experience an issue where the right-front half-shaft assemblies may be improperly connected to the transmission, causing them to separate.  The result can be a dangerous loss of power. GM acknowledges in its recall that when the vehicles unexpectedly lose propulsion and/or mechanical park, there is increased risk the 2023 Cadillac XT5 or GMC Acadia vehicles can crash or unexpectedly roll-away.

Owners may contact General Motors customer service directly about this recall or can find more information about the General Motors recall on the NHTSA website here.

Recalls can be an indication that an underlying issue exists with the vehicle and the manufacturer has knowledge of that defect.  Under the California Lemon Law, if the manufacturer cannot repair your vehicle under warranty after repeated attempts, you may be entitled to compensation. You can read MMO Law’s post pertaining to automotive recalls by clicking here.
