Nissan is recalling more than 173,000 vans due to a potential defect in their fuel pump systems that could cause engines to stall while driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects specific 2013–2021 Nissan NV200 Vans, 2014–2017 and 2019 NV200 Taxis. The issue stems from a misrouted Fuel Tank Temperature (FTT) sensor harness that can damage wiring, leading to a short circuit in the fuel pump fuse. If the fuse blows, the engine may suddenly stall—raising the risk of a crash, particularly at higher speeds or in heavy traffic.
Owners of affected vehicles can rest assured that the repairs will be performed free of charge. Nissan has instructed dealers to inspect the vehicles and either reroute the FTT sensor harness or replace the fuel pump assembly if needed. Notification letters will begin reaching owners on December 3, 2025, but affected Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) are already searchable on NHTSA.gov. Owners may also contact Nissan customer service directly, referencing recall number PMA56.
This latest recall follows a broader trend across the auto industry, as regulators have observed a rise in nationwide recalls tied to electrical and fuel system defects. On the same day Nissan’s recall was announced, Stellantis recalled nearly 298,000 Dodge Darts over a shifter cable defect, Hyundai recalled over 135,000 Santa Fe SUVs for a potential fire risk, and BMW and Toyota issued separate recalls involving starter and rearview camera malfunctions. The surge underscores increased NHTSA scrutiny and evolving safety standards across multiple automakers.
Conclusion
Recalls can be an indication that an underlying issue exists with the vehicle and the manufacturer has knowledge of that defect. Under the California Lemon Law, if the manufacturer cannot repair your vehicle under warranty after repeated attempts, you may be entitled to compensation.
