Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2019-2020 Fusion PHEV vehicles due to a potential issue with the battery energy control module (BECM). The BECM issue should be taken seriously and can result in a loss of drive power or fire and result in a risk of crash or injury. Ford Fusion owners may know this recall as Ford Recall Number 23S33 or NHTSA Recall Number 23V440000.
Ford advises owners not to charge their vehicles until the remedy is completed. Unfortunately, it appears there is not a permanent fix at this time. Instead, Ford claims that a remedy is currently being developed. Ford expects to send out letters alerting owners of the issue in July of 2023.
Recalls can be an indication that an underlying issue exists with the vehicle and the manufacturer has knowledge of that defect.
