At MMO Law, we have previously detailed serious issues involving Tesla vehicles, including Tesla Model Y catching fire. Now the Tesla’s Cybertruck is back in the news for a recall, for headlights that are too bright. LED lighting issues have plagued other EV’s, including a Rivian reverse light beam issue that we have written about previously.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Tesla is recalling 63,619 model-year 2024–2026 Cybertrucks due to excessively bright front parking lights that could temporarily blind other drivers and increase the risk of a crash.
Background: A Second Recall in Months
Back in March 2025, Tesla recalled more than 46,000 Cybertrucks (NHTSA Recall 25V-199) for detaching trim panels that could become dangerous road debris.
Now, Tesla has issued a second recall — NHTSA Recall No. 25V-738 (Tesla’s internal reference SB-25-00-008) — for a very different kind of visibility problem.
What’s Causing the Problem?
It appears the vehicle controller software in affected trucks can cause the front parking lights to emit excessive light levels that can distract or impair visibility for oncoming drivers and risk creating a crash.
Tesla’s Response: A Free Over-the-Air Fix
Tesla has already released an over-the-air (OTA) software update to correct the issue — meaning owners do not need to visit a service center for repairs. The fix is provided free of charge, as required by federal safety law.
Conclusion
Recalls can be an indication that an underlying issue exists with the vehicle and the manufacturer has knowledge of that defect. Under the California Lemon Law, if the manufacturer cannot repair your vehicle under warranty after repeated attempts, you may be entitled to compensation.
